International Final - 2009



Launched in Portugal in 1980, by SDG and the EXPRESSO newspaper, more than 420.000 competitors comprising a range from company executives to university students have participated worldwide.

The Global Management Challenge has become a high profile and visible event in each of the 30 countries where it is held, adding prestige to the many participating organisations.

The International Final, where the winning teams of each country compete for the World Title, is a milestone and prestigious event, which provides a unique experience of contact between different cultures and the reality of competing at an international level.

The team from Ukraine , a student team, was the winner of the 2009 International Final.

Ukraine joined this competition of strategy and management just 4 years ago and this is their first international victory. 

Markiin Serchynskyi, winning team leader:"The competition was very strong and it was difficult to win but the fact that we won proves that Ukraine has the capacity to be competitive.

Anna Degtereva, Partner of Global Management Challenge Ukraine: "The result that we achieved today shows the students of Ukraine that they can study and achieve their objectives. We saw today that Ukraine has a future and the future is our students that will be the managers of tomorrow."

In second place was Finland and in third Russia.

Besides the countries stated the following teams competed for the world title:

Australia, Belarus, Brazil, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Italy, Macao, P.R.China, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia and Turkey.


The organisation of this International Final – the XXVII edition - was organised by the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russia Federation, in Khanty-Mansiysk, Siberia, Russia.

The final was organised over two days. In the Opening Ceremony the teams were randomly allocated into four groups competing to be the top two teams of each group. The two teams with the highest company share price in each group were the eight teams that qualified for the final in the second day.
